Hello! My Name is Dr Obinna Abaribe. I am a board-certified Infectious Disease physician specializing in adult infectious disease and HIV care since 2020. I was born and raised in Nigeria but received my medical degree from Ukraine in 2012 after completing 6 years of medical school. Then a three-year residency program in Internal medicine at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital Chicago IL. Afterwards, I went to a two-year fellowship in Infectious disease at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami FL.
My interest in infectious disease stems from my deep fascination with microbes, and my belief that the most important medical problems dealt with are related to infections. I’m also thrilled by the complexity and diversity of the patient population encountered in the growing field. Growing up in Nigeria, schooling in Eastern Europe and training in the US exposed me to a wide array of disease processes. Also, during my fellowship training I encountered rare travel related diseases, and opportunistic infections seen in post-transplant patients and those who are Immunocompromised from HIV. I’ve co-authored a few publications in PubMed. During the pandemic, I was exposed to a wide number of patients diagnosed with COVID -19 and gained experience with their management. Specific interests of mine in the field include antimicrobial stewardship, HIV medicine, HIV/STD preventative care and prophylaxis.
In my spare time, I love to read, go to the movies, travel, explore new restaurants. Other hobbies/ interests of mine include classical music, ice skating and creating digital content and movie editing. I am married to my wife who is also a medical student and have a young son. I look forward to meeting you and addressing your healthcare needs!
